There is increasing pressure to unionize staff in senior housing communities at all levels; Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing and CCRCs. The National Labor Relations Board continues to enact new rules that are designed to create an unfair playing field that is highly disadvantageous to operators and highly advantageous to union organizers. A bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives to restore balance.

Oh, my. This is so clearly a comment from an operator of a for-profit. Instead of fearing unions, which are very often necessary to give workers a voice (which they deserve, right?), how about asking why workers are feeling the need for a union? How about making a workplace structure that attracts and retains excellent workers. If you aren’t doing that, you’re most certainly NOT serving your residents.
First, this is a very old post, from 2011 so very early in the life of Foresight. I wrote it and it was all about offering information. Unionization continues to be a two edged sword for operators and team members.
